DERMATOLOGICAL PROBLEMS OF PYGMY HEDGEHOGS

Dermatological illnesses in hedgehogs are frequent. Scabies mites and fungal infections are the most frequent, but bacterial illnesses occur as well. The hedgehogs can lose their spikes, their skin can become flaky. Pus filled cysts can grow at the base of the spikes. Properly diagnosing the root cause can be difficult in some cases, so taking samples and laboratory examination might be necessary.
