HOSPITAL CARE

HOSPITAL CARE

Guinea pigs frequently need hospitalisation if they have a severe, life threatening illness, if they need complicated medical treatment or if their force feeding isn’t manageable at home. Frequently the aftercare of surgeries takes place at our hospital. When taking them in we aim to provide a calm and safe environment for them to feel as comfortable as possible. During hospitalisation they are treated 2-3 times a day, depending on their illness and individual needs. The ones that don’t eat enough on their own are force fed with syringes. They are placed in individual cages set up for their specific needs and if possible they are fed with food they know and like. Of course we cannot provide an exact copy of their home environment, so our goal is always to be able to release them back home as soon as possible.
